Rooi Rose January 2013

Ever read about a celebrity ‘scandal’ in the papers, and then the weeklies, and then a few months later you see them all dressed up for a glossy title, telling ‘the real story’? I take Karlien van Jaarsveld as an example, and show you the path of a celebrity; from highlights, to lowlights, and then to the cover of a glossy monthly, telling readers everything…

The news of their break-up was announced in the 21 October 2012 issue of Rapport, with a very strong heading “Karlien vrees skei, toe los sy Derick”…

Rooi Rose, January 2013: Just more than 1 month later, they appear on the cover of a glossy monthly, all dressed up and glam, telling ‘the real story’…

And so the cycle continues… On the cover of weeklies, then glossies. A scandal appears in the daily papers, and the weeklies will pick up the story from there having an in-depth interview, but the celebrity will keep the ‘real story’ for the glossy monthly title…

UPDATE: Karlien and Derick are now married, and Huisgenoot (21 March 2013) has the exclusive pictures and article on a 9 page special. See the cover below.
