South Africa (and I think the world) woke up to the shocking headlines on twitter (with news broken by @Beeld_nuus) on Thursday morning, 14 February 2013; “Oscar Pistorius shoots his girlfriend, thinking she’s an intruder” and “Oscar Pistorius held ‘for shooting girlfriend”. The girlfriend they are referring to, is model Reeva Steenkamp.
It doesn’t matter how you look at it, it’s an extremely sad situation for Oscar Pistorius, but mostly for her family (
who were, if reports are to be believed, outside the house when the shooting happened), but also for South Africa… Especially when looking at what news reports like on News.com.au are already focusing on;
“Almost six million South Africans have guns, and the nation has one of the world’s highest gun ownership rates at 12.7 firearms per 100 people.
Pistorius lives in Pretoria, which was recently named one of the most dangerous places in the country when it comes to house robberies.
A recent report named the city as one of the top 20 most dangerous and violent areas to live in.
The capital also has four suburbs in the 10 most dangerous places to live in South Africa when it comes to attempted murder, rape, street robberies and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (assault GBH).” – From News.com.au article.
All true, and a sad reality that many South African live in fear at night…
But I’m not here to criticize, or to point fingers, or to guess what happened.
I wanted to give MediaSlut readers an insight into the beautiful model and person that Reeva Steenkamp was, so here is snapshot and celebration of her appearances and mentions in South African media;
She’s is one of the celebrities on the new season of Tropika Island of Treasure (Season 5). In this episode promo, she appears quite a lot. This mini-reality show airs on Saturdays at 18:30, on SABC 1.
One of the behind-the-scenes video’s of an FHM shoot
She also appeared in a Cell C campaign
May she rest in peace, and good luck to all her family and friends. Also because every single weekly magazine and international newspaper will unfortunately want to know every piece of detail…
