(SEE MY TOP 10 iMAGAZINE COVERS BELOW!)
Ladies and gents, I present to you the final issue of iMagazine (in it’s current glossy magazine format). Yes, iMagazine will not be published anymore, so it won’t be in your City Press newspaper anymore after this coming Sunday.
Something that I’ll always remember about when thinking of iMagazine, is their iconic covers. Covers that really captured celebrities/personalities not just beautifully, but in a unique way. Covers that you won’t find on any other magazine. Risky covers. Bold covers. Award-winning covers (if they were allowed to enter them…). And the content was also bloody brilliant, and always a nice break from the hardcore news in the newspaper.
City Press (and also Rapport) have decided to close these titles, and to rather have an extra newspaper Lifestyle-type-section in the papers. Doesn’t matter how you skin it, my personal feeling is that it’s just not the same. Glossy magazines add value to the newspaper-package. One will just have to see how the new Lifestyle-supplements will look (and have to offer), and what the newspaper(s) have to offer as a whole compared to a Sunday paper like Sunday Times (which is just filled to the brim with supplements and inserts for every type of section in the market).
Media24 News has announced that it will be closing its City Press and Rapport lifestyle magazines iMagazine and MyTyd, published by New Media Publishing. The last publication date for both titles is Sunday 23 February 2014.
Minette Ferreira, General Manager for Media24 Northern Newspapers said that the titles would be launching new lifestyle sections that will be produced in-house. Ferreira said that this was an evolutionary step for the Sunday titles and paves the way for new and innovative lifestyle vehicles to be launched in both City Press and Rapport during the course of the next month. More details will be made available upon launch.
Ads24 and the titles’ direct sales teams will handle the advertising sales for both the lifestyle sections of Rapport and City Press.
City Press launched the high-end lifestyle magazine in October 2011 and Rapport MyTyd, launched in March 2012.
But let me end off my last iMagazine post by publishing 10 of their covers over the past few years that have grabbed my attention, and which I thought showcased certain personalities in a way we’ve never seen before. iConic iMagazine covers. RIP.
